For therapists seeking depth

Insightful, attuned supervision — at whatever stage of practice you’re in.

If you’re a therapist looking for a supervisor who takes the work seriously (your clients, your clinical development, and your own experience of being a therapist), you’re in the right place.

Middle Way offers clinical supervision for LMSWs working toward an LCSW, LMHCs and LCATs under limited permits, and fully licensed clinicians seeking peer consultation. We work with masters-level students completing field placements as well.

Ten months into practice or ten years in, supervision here is meant to be reflective, practical, and human.

The supervisor

Tara Rullo, LCSW

Founder & clinical director, Middle Way Psychotherapy

Tara Rullo has been a practicing clinician for more than two decades and has been supervising therapists (fully licensed, limited-permit, and masters-level students) for over fifteen years. Her clinical work spans trauma, couples therapy (including Gottman Method), EMDR, and somatic-focused care; her supervision draws from all of it.

Before founding Middle Way, Tara led clinical teams and developed training programs in community-based mental health. That institutional experience shows up in supervision as a deep familiarity with the regulatory, ethical, and systemic pressures therapists face, and a steady commitment to making supervision a space for real reflection rather than reporting up.

A few lines in Tara’s voice about why she supervises, and what she brings to the chair, will live here. — placeholder for Tara’s rewrite.

The approach

A space where the real work gets done.

We believe supervision should be a space where you can:

  • Deepen your clinical skills
  • Explore countertransference and client dynamics
  • Receive guidance through ethical, cultural, and systemic complexities
  • Reflect on your identity as a therapist
  • Grow confidence in your voice and instincts
  • Feel supported, not scrutinized

Supervision at Middle Way is reflective and depth-oriented. We hold a high clinical standard without turning supervision into a performance. You should leave sessions clearer about your cases and more grounded in your own practice.

Ways we work together

Individual supervision

Weekly or biweekly one-to-one sessions with Tara. This is the primary format for therapists accumulating hours toward licensure, as well as for licensed clinicians who want ongoing consultation.

Group supervision

Offered when there is availability and alignment — particularly for somatic-oriented clinicians. Group work can complement individual supervision or serve as a standalone consultation container. Reach out to ask about current openings or waitlist.

What we’ll work on

Cases, countertransference, and everything in between.

Supervision often starts with a case you’re stuck on. It rarely stays there. The best sessions move between the specific (what’s happening with this particular client, right now) and the general (what this case is asking you to grow into as a clinician).

Common ground we cover: trauma-informed practice, EMDR and somatic work, couples dynamics and Gottman-informed interventions, ethical and regulatory questions, pacing and ruptures, countertransference, scope-of-practice and referrals, and building your own therapeutic voice.

How we start

1

Reach out

Send a note through our contact form. Tell us a little about where you are in your career and what you’re looking for in supervision.

2

Brief consult

Tara will schedule a short call to talk through your credential, your caseload, your goals, and whether it’s a good fit on both sides.

3

Begin supervision

If we proceed, we’ll set a regular cadence (most supervisees meet weekly or biweekly) and start the work.

Licensure & supervision hours

Middle Way supervision is suitable for the following paths. Specific hour requirements vary by credential and license board — we’ll walk through what your path looks like in our first conversation.

Credential What supervision supports Format
LMSW → LCSW Clinical supervision toward the hours required for advanced licensure. Can be the primary supervision of record or a supplemental supervisor. Individual; weekly or biweekly.
LMHC Clinical supervision for Licensed Mental Health Counselors working under a limited permit or seeking ongoing consultation. Individual; weekly or biweekly.
LCAT Clinical supervision for Licensed Creative Arts Therapists, including those integrating somatic or trauma-focused work. Individual; weekly or biweekly.
Masters-level students Field placement and practicum supervision for students in MSW, LMHC, and related clinical programs. Individual or group, per program requirements.
Licensed clinicians Ongoing peer consultation for fully licensed clinicians who want a reflective clinical home outside their own practice. Individual; cadence set with supervisee.

Requirements for any given license are set by the relevant New York State board. We’ll confirm specifics together before beginning supervision.

Frequently asked questions

What modalities or populations does Tara specialize in?

Tara has experience across trauma, couples work (including Gottman), EMDR, and somatic-focused care. We welcome supervisees from many approaches and backgrounds.

Can Tara sign off on hours for my license?

Yes. We offer supervision for LMSWs, LCATs, LMHCs, and others working toward licensure. We’re happy to discuss specific requirements with you in our first conversation.

Do you offer group supervision?

Yes, when there’s availability and alignment — particularly with somatic interventions. Let us know your interest and we can share current openings or waitlist options.

What does supervision cost, and how often will we meet?

Most supervisees meet weekly or biweekly for 50–60 minutes. Fees are discussed during the initial consult and depend on format (individual vs. group), cadence, and scope. Please reach out for current rates.

Can supervision happen remotely if I’m not in New York?

We supervise therapists practicing in New York, either in-person at our Brooklyn Heights office or via secure telehealth across New York State. For clinicians practicing outside New York, please reach out so we can talk about what would be appropriate in your state.

What makes supervision a good fit?

Supervision works best when there’s mutual clarity about goals, clinical orientation, and cadence. The first conversation is low-stakes and honest on both sides: we’ll talk through what you’re looking for and whether Middle Way is the right place for it. If not, we’ll often be able to point you in another direction.

Let’s support your growth as a therapist — with care and depth.

We welcome therapists of all backgrounds and actively support BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and neurodiverse clinicians working with the unique layers of their professional experience.
