Our mission
At Middle Way Psychotherapy, we provide compassionate, evidence-based care that supports people in finding balance, healing, and connection.
We blend mindful practices with proven therapeutic approaches, offering a collaborative space where clients can explore their inner world and move toward meaningful change. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, trauma, life transitions, or looking for deeper self-understanding, our team is here to walk alongside you — at whatever pace the work calls for.
A team that grows together
Every therapist at Middle Way is committed to ongoing professional development. We hold ourselves to a high standard — not only in training, but in presence, humility, and integrity.
We don’t just “offer therapy.” We offer thoughtful, relational care from people who genuinely enjoy working and learning together. That collegial texture shapes what it feels like to be a client here.
A group practice with heart
Middle Way Psychotherapy was created from the belief that healing happens best in community — not just for clients, but for therapists too.
After many years in community-based mental health settings, founder Tara Rullo, LCSW knew she wanted to build something different: a group practice where clients receive high-quality, personalized care and therapists feel resourced, supported, and inspired to grow.
Tara brings over two decades of experience leading clinical teams, training mental health professionals, and developing programs rooted in compassion and competence. That foundation shows up in everything we do — from how we care for clients to how we show up for one another.
A space that feels safe
Our newly renovated Brooklyn Heights office is designed to feel warm, calm, and restorative — for clients and therapists alike.
Whether you’re meeting with us in person or virtually, we want your therapy space to feel like a place you can truly exhale. Every detail — the light, the seating, the pacing of a session — is held with that in mind.
Sessions are 45–60 minutes long and typically occur once per week, except for our intensives offerings which are determined beforehand with the client. Meeting regularly allows for consistent progress and helps build a trusting therapeutic relationship. If and when you begin to meet your goals, we may decide together to taper sessions before concluding treatment.
Yes — we offer a free 15-minute phone consultation with each of our therapists. This is a chance for you to share what you’re looking for, ask questions, and get a feel for the therapist’s approach. We’ll also ask a few questions to help us figure out whether we’re a good fit for your needs and goals.
Our individual therapy sessions range from $225 to $325, depending on the therapist. Couples therapy sessions range from $250 to $350. We reserve a limited number of low-fee spots for individuals for whom cost is a barrier — please feel free to reach out to inquire about availability.
We do not accept in-network insurance at this time. However, many clients with out-of-network benefits are eligible for reimbursement. If your plan includes out-of-network mental health coverage, we will provide monthly superbills you can submit to your insurance provider for possible partial reimbursement.
Life happens, we understand. You will not be charged for a session if you cancel with at least 48 hours’ notice.
We’re so glad you’re interested in learning more. Get in touch via our contact page and we’ll answer any specific questions.
Where we see clients
Middle Way Psychotherapy’s office is in Brooklyn Heights at 15 Monroe Place, convenient to Park Slope, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Downtown Brooklyn, and DUMBO. We also see clients virtually across New York State.
Many clients start with a hybrid of in-person and telehealth sessions — for clients commuting from different neighborhoods or traveling for work, the flexibility is often what makes weekly sustainable.
When you’re ready — or even when you’re just exploring — we’re here. The consult is a free 15-minute conversation. We’ll listen, ask a few questions, and help you see what therapy at Middle Way could look like.
